Das Google Web Toolkit gibt es schon eine Weile. Das GWT ist ein Framework zur einfachen Entwicklung von AJAX (Konzept zur asnychronen Datenübertragung zwischen Browser und Server)-Applikationen auf Java-Basis.
Wie bei Slashdot zu lesen war, liegen die Vorteile des GWT auf der Hand:

You get to write your logic in a language other than Javascript — that is, one with type safety, compile time checking, sane syntax, and a reasonably consistent implementation.

Laut dem Google OS benutzt Google dieses Framework auch intern zur Entwicklung ihrer Applikationen.
Die eigentlichen News: Das GWT ist ab sofort OpenSource (Apache-2-Lizenz). Google unterstütz damit zum wiederholten Mal den OpenSource-Gedanken. Reschpeckt!
